10 reasons to ignore computer scientists…?
I rarely read articles Google suggest me. I often scroll through my feed a couple of times a day, only stopping if something really catches my attention. I find those that arrive via notification to be the most dumb and clickbait-y.
About a week ago however a title surprised me a lot more than usual. You can usually recognize clickbait titles with ease; moreover, I personally regard list articles as a low effort format to pump up mediocre content.
Reading “10 reasons to ignore computer science degrees”, however, left me stunned for a few seconds. It’s just a preamble I’d never think to hear in my life. Like “10 ways to get banana spiders out of your Harley”, or “10 times Hollywood needed a deaf gorilla”.
It doesn’t make sense in the most absurd way. I couldn’t fathom the use case where someone must tell you “you should not go for a computer scientist” (barring the obvious situation where you need any other professional figure). So I gave in to curiosity and read it.
It was as dumb as it sounded.
As a foreword, I’m not pissed, mad, or even slightly annoyed at that article. Yes, I am a computer scientist and I believe it to be the best field you can work in. However, the difference between the context described there and the actual reality of things is so astounding I can…
